At this point no one knows when will buu revive, and how much longer goku has left. So by killing innocent people who moved himself up the priority list of Goku to fight. The reason he used this methods is because goku was only going to be there for a day and it was his only chance to fight him. Yes he wanted a power boost, and a chance to fight goku. Then Super came along, and has an interesting story building with this new Vegeta. Vegeta had to eventually come back to fight Boo and eventually, after witnessing Super Saiyan 3, puts away his pride and admits that Kakarot is the best bringing his character arc to its climax. That sacrifice was short-lived though (as was Goku’s). Then, after he knocked out Goku, he sacrificed himself to beat Boo showing how he has realized the error of his thinking and his love for his family and of course Kakarot. Babidi’s control made Vegeta care only about his pride as a Saiyan and so Vegeta went back to being a rutheless villain who murdered hundreds of people. He did and killed tons of people on his own. He had gotten too soft on earth with his family and wanted to cut loose and be evil. He made Babidi take control of him, and Vegeta decided to let it happen because he wanted to fight Goku more than anything else. Vegeta had evil in his heart and Dabura saw it. He saw how strong Goku had gotten when Goku fought Yakon. He said “I am no warrior and I will never fight again.” Then Goku returns and all he wants to do at the Tournament is fight him and prove himself. Vegeta, after Goku sacrificed himself in the Cell saga, is left distraught. ![]()
